Driving Change: Our Core Competencies in Action

ACHVO-K’s strategic approach combines targeted advocacy, robust capacity building, and powerful community mobilization to transform the landscape of community health in Kenya.

1. Advocacy & Policy Influence

Achvo-K

At the heart of ACHVO-K’s mission is a steadfast commitment to Advocacy and Policy Influence. We tirelessly work for policy reforms and champion critical legislation that fundamentally uplifts the status of Community Health Promoters (CHPs) across Kenya. Our concerted efforts are geared towards ensuring CHPs are not merely recognized, but are legally protected and fully professionalized, transitioning them from often-overlooked volunteers to essential, respected members of the national health workforce. This institutional shift is paramount for securing a dignified future for thousands of frontline health workers.

This extensive advocacy involves significant engagement with parliamentary processes, active participation in numerous technical working groups alongside the Ministry of Health, and strategic dialogues with a diverse array of national and international stakeholders. We meticulously review policy documents, draft compelling proposals, and provide expert testimony, all aimed at shaping a legislative environment that truly values and supports the work of CHPs. Our goal extends beyond mere participation; we strive to lead the discourse.

Ultimately, we aim to embed the true value of CHPs into the very fabric of national health policy, thereby enhancing their ability to deliver vital services with the dignity and systemic support they rightfully deserve.

2. Capacity Building & Training

Achvo-K

Empowering CHPs with the right tools and knowledge is central to our strategy, which we achieve through our comprehensive Capacity Building and Training programs. Our flagship initiative, Advocacy in Motion (AIM), is specifically designed to equip CHPs with a crucial blend of skills: advocacy, leadership, and digital literacy. These specialized trainings are meticulously developed to go far beyond basic health instruction, providing a holistic skill set that enables our CHPs to operate with greater autonomy and impact.

Through AIM, CHPs learn to effectively articulate their needs and the needs of their communities, lead impactful local health initiatives, and skillfully leverage modern technology for improved data collection, reporting, and communication. This digital fluency is particularly vital in remote and underserved areas, allowing for more efficient health surveillance and quicker responses to community health challenges. Our programs are dynamic, constantly evolving to address the emerging needs of both the CHPs and the communities they serve.

By enhancing their capabilities, we ensure CHPs are not just service providers, but also informed advocates for their communities and their profession, driving sustainable change from within the health system itself.

3. Membership Mobilization & Networking

Achvo-K

Building a strong, unified movement is paramount, which is why Membership Mobilization and Networking forms a core pillar of our work. ACHVO-K is dedicated to growing a robust national membership base, meticulously connecting Community Health Promoters from every corner of Kenya. We foster a powerful, interconnected network that transcends geographical boundaries, enabling CHPs to share invaluable experiences, access vital resources, and collectively amplify their voices to advocate for their rights and professional development.

This extensive mobilization effort includes the strategic establishment and continuous strengthening of county chapters, ensuring representation and activity at the local level. We regularly organize engaging forums, workshops, and communication channels designed to facilitate peer-to-peer learning and mentorship. These platforms ensure that every CHP feels connected, supported, and an integral part of a larger, influential family dedicated to their empowerment and professional advancement.

Through this unified network, we transform individual efforts into a collective force, driving advocacy and solidarity across the entire community health sector.

4. Community Health System Strengthening

Achvo-K

Ultimately, all our efforts converge on Community Health System Strengthening, with a clear overarching objective: promoting equitable access to quality healthcare for all Kenyans. We operate on the profound belief that truly empowering CHPs directly translates into robust, resilient community health systems, as they are inherently the most trusted and accessible agents of change right at the grassroots level of society. Their proximity to communities allows for tailored interventions.

By ensuring CHPs are consistently well-trained, officially recognized, and fully integrated into the broader health system, we significantly enhance their capacity to deliver essential preventative care, critical health education, and timely basic treatment. This strategic integration serves to reduce the burden on formal health facilities, dramatically improves health outcomes in remote and underserved areas, and moves Kenya closer to achieving universal health coverage.

Our work is fundamental to building a more equitable and just health landscape, where high-quality healthcare is a right, not a privilege, for every citizen.
