Established by CHWs, For CHWs
The journey of ACHVO-K began with a powerful, undeniable truth: the dedication and tireless efforts of Kenya’s Community Health Promoters (CHPs) were often overlooked, and their crucial role in the healthcare system remained undervalued. It was from this grassroots recognition that the CHW Champions Network was born, conceived by CHPs themselves to advocate for their peers. This initial community-based organization quickly gained momentum, driven by a collective desire to secure formal recognition and support for those on the frontline of public health. Our transformation into the National Association of Community Health Volunteers of Kenya (ACHVO-K) marks a pivotal moment, cementing our legal standing as the authoritative voice for this indispensable workforce across the nation. Our very foundation is rooted in the principle that those closest to the challenges are best positioned to champion the solutions, directly embodying the ethos of being “established by CHWs, for CHWs”
Our Growth and Vision
From our foundational beginnings, ACHVO-K has rapidly evolved into a formidable national umbrella body. Operating with a dedicated National Secretariat based in Nairobi, we strategically coordinate and empower a vast network of active chapters established in all 47 counties of Kenya. This expansive reach allows us to effectively aggregate the diverse needs and voices of over 107,000 Community Health Promoters, channeling their experiences into tangible policy change. Our leadership, comprising five visionary co-founders and a robust National Executive Committee, is committed to fostering strategic partnerships with government bodies, international NGOs, and local communities alike. Through this concerted effort, we are not merely advocating for recognition; we are actively shaping a future where every CHP is professionally empowered, legally protected, and equitably remunerated, thereby strengthening the entire community health system for the benefit of all Kenyans
